The Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall was built to honor the memory of Mr. S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike, the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka from 1956 to 1959 whose ideals favoured peace and understanding between nations for the preservation of harmony and advancement of mankind.

BMICH was a gift from the People’s Republic of China and was built between 1770 and 1973 in the heart of Colombo comprising of nine buildings covering 37 acres of landscape. It is considered as one of Asia’s most up-to-date conference venues and ranked as South Asia’s best with several high profile events been held including the Non Aligned Movement Summit in August 1976, the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in 2013 and the most recent World Youth Conference in May this year. In addition to being the primary location for international conferences and events it is utilized for trade and academic shows, exhibitions, beauty pageants, musical shows and drama events.
